Sebring testing

With 38 days to go before the start of the 2012 World Endurance Championship at Sebring, some 30 cars are currently at the Florida (USA) venue for this week’s official test session.

On February 8-9, the Sebring International Raceway will be available for American Le Mans Series and WEC runners for the traditional pre-season test session. However, Muscle Milk Pickett Racing is the only team with an LMP1 prototype – the new HPD-ARX03a/Michelin – which will be shared by ALMS regulars Graff and Pickett, along with Frenchman Simon Pagenaud who will join them for the 12 Hours of Sebring.

The GT teams have snapped up the opportunity to get a little winter testing under their belts, including the two factory Corvette C6.Rs (Magnussen/Garcia/Taylor and Gavin/Milner/Westbrook), as well as the Flying Lizard 2012-spec Porsche 997 RSR/Michelins. At the 12-hour race, the German cars will be driven by Bergmeister/Long/Holzer (N°45) and Neiman/Law/Lally (N°44). Also in Florida are the three Extreme Speed Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia and Krohn Racing’s similar car.

BMW has sent entries for its two factory M3s, although no drivers have been specified, while Christophe Bouchut, Pascal Gibson and Jean-Philippe Beloc Larbre Compétition have been recruited to share drive the French team’s Corvette C6.R.

The 60th 12 Hours of Sebring will take place on March 17, and a 64-strong grid is expected for the 2012 WEC and ALMS curtain-raiser.
