The results of the different Le Mans-‘sanctioned’ competitions have enabled the ACO to draw up a list of the 17 teams which will be guaranteed an entry for next June’s visit to La Sarthe. The cars concerned account for 24 of the 55 places available.
In LMP1, Audi Sport Team Joest, Peugeot Sport Total, Rebellion Racing and Muscle Milk AMR have all received invitations, while certain teams have earned slots for two cars (Greaves Motorsport, Pescarolo Team, Corvette Racing, Dyson Racing and BMW RLL).
AF Corse has even received invitations for three cars thanks to its 2011 results (1st, GTE Pro/LMS, 2nd GT Am/LMS and MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge), although it will only be able to claim two places on the starting grid.
For these invitations to stand, the teams in question must submit an entry for the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours and also commit to either the Le Mans Series or American Le Mans Series. Entries for Le Mans open on December 19, while tickets for spectators are already on sale.
The official entry list for the 80th running of the French endurance classic will be published on February 2, 2012.
The 17 invited teams are (number of cars in brackets): Audi Sport Team Joest (1), Peugeot Sport Total (1), Level 5 Motorsport (1), Krohn Racing (1), Larbre Compétition (1), Rebellion Racing (1), Strakka Racing (1), JMW Motorsport (1), IMSA Performance-Matmut (1), Pegasus Racing (1), Muscle Milk AMR (1), Greaves Motorsport (2), Pescarolo Team (2), Corvette Racing (2), Dyson Racing (2), BMW Team RLL (2) and AF Corse (3).
