Peugeot, who currently top the provisional standings with a score of 132 points, will have two 908s for Davidson/Bourdais and Montagny/Sarrazin. Audi, too, will have a pair of cars for Bernhard/Fassler and Kristensen/McNish. The German make trails by a margin of 43 points in the Manufacturers championship but is only five points adrift in the chase for the Teams’ crown.
Team Oreca-Matmut returns with its Peugeot 908 HDi FAP after skipping the trip to Imola, while the factory Aston Martin team returns as well, albeit with a former-generation Lola-Aston Martin. OAK Racing and Rebellion Racing are both sending two prototypes to the UK, with one-car operations Pescarolo Team and Mik Corse rounding off the list of 12 LMP1 runners. However, Quifel ASM Team and Hope Racing have both announced that they will not be continuing the 2011 series.
In LMP2, the Level 5 Motorsport-run HPD-ARX 01g prototype will be the weekend’s star attraction, but Lola has just announced it will have a new ‘cost-capped’ LMP2 chassis (B12/40) ready for 2012. Level 5 is currently second in the LMP2 Teams’ standings, 20 points adrift of Signatech-Nissan. OAK Racing will also have a car in this class and spectators should be treated to an interesting fight along with the Le Mans Series front-runners Strakka Racing, Greaves Motorsport, Boutsen Energy Racing, TDS Racing, etc.
Ferrari provisionally leads the ILMC’s LMGTE Manufacturers’ class ahead of BMW and Corvette, with AFCorse sitting at the top of the Teams’ standings. The latter has entered the British race with two LMGTE Ferrari 458s for Bruni/Fisichella and Melo/Vilander. Luxury Racing will also have two cars, as will Lotus-Jetalliance and BMW who will welcome the return of Andy Priaulx behind the wheel of one of its two factory M3s. Porsche will be represented by Prospeed Compétition, Imsa-Performance and Felbermayr-Proton, and the Kessel Racing Ferrari 458 is poised to make its race debut. A similar LMGTE Am field to that seen at Imola will compete as well (Imsa, Larbre, Krohn, CRS and Gulf Middle East’s Aston Martin Vintage).
