Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf steered their Muscle Milk-backed Aston Martin to its second consecutive victory ahead of Dyson Racing’s Lola-Mazda. The race was ended a quarter of an hour ahead of the scheduled finish because of heavy rain. Not only does the result put the N°6 Aston Martin back in contention for the ALMS title, but a fourth straight win for the Muscle Milk squad in the MICHELIN GREEN X Challenge has also practically guaranteed it as place on the entry list for the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours.
The final minutes of the race produced a cascade of drama in the GT class, with victory finally going to the Porsche of Henzler/Sellers ahead of the Corvette C6.R of Gavin/Magnussen and the two works BMW M3s. The N°45 Porsche Flying Lizard was lying second when Patrick Long aquaplaned off shortly before the chequered flag.
The next round of the ALMS will take teams to Road America in two weeks’ time. The factory Aston Martin and Porsche teams will be back in action in the American series at mid-September’s visit to Laguna Seca. Fernandez/Primat will share an LMP1 Lola-Aston Martin in California, while Porsche will run the GT3R- Hybrid for Dumas Lietz.
