Aston Martin reviews its plans

The Aston Martin factory team is expected to finish its 2011 ILMC campaign with a ‘former-generation’ Lola-Aston Martin. Development of the new AMR-One is effectively turning out to take longer than expected.

Aston-Martin-AMR-OneDavid Richards, who was in Finland to oversee Mini’s WRC outing there, has confirmed that the Lola-Aston Martin will be brought back out for the visit to Silverstone at the beginning of September. Meanwhile, development work is continuing on the AMR-One after the two cars which contested the Le Mans 24 Hours clocked up no more than six laps between them in June’s race.

Aston Martin will take a Lola-Aston Martin to the last three rounds of the ILMC, for Fernandez and Primat. It is worth recalling that the petrol-fuelled prototype won the Le Mans Series in 2009 and came fourth at Le Mans the same year.

Meanwhile, Level 5 Motorsport has chosen to drop its Lola chassis in favour of an HPD-ARX 01g LMP2 package from the Silverstone 6 Hours onwards. The HPD-ARX 01g is the latest evolution of the package that has claimed 22 class wins since 2007. Scott Tucker’s operation took the LMP2 spoils at Sebring earlier in the year before finishing inside the class’s top-three at Le Mans.

Switching topics, Anthony Davidson has broken a collarbone in a cycling accident, while his Peugeot Sport team-mate Stéphane Sarrazin came 101st (from more than 6,000 starters) on the Mondovelo running of the Tour de France’s Modane-Alpe D’Huez stage in July. Not bad!
