Following the car’s one-two result at Spa at the beginning of May, the Peugeot 908 produced another assertive run to collect the top two places ahead of the two Audi R18 TDIs after six hours of racing. Sébastien Bourdais and Anthony Davidson, who were sharing the same car for the first time, took the win in the N°7 Peugeot ahead of their team-mates Franck Montagny and Stéphane Sarrazin in the N°8 sister car.
Both Peugeot’s even succeeded in triple-stinting during the middle part of the race, while the two Audis worked to a double-stint strategy. Bernhard/Fassler (Audi 1) and McNish/Kristensen (Audi 2) finished in third and fourth places respectively, ahead of the N°13 Rebellion Racing Lola-Toyota (Boullion/Belicchi) which was the best-placed ‘petrol prototype’ finisher.
The Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan finished on top once again in LMP2. The class was led for a long time by the TDS Racing Oreca-Nissan before it was delayed by a starter motor problem. The N°26 Oreca-Nissan ended up pocketing second place ahead of the Level 5 Motorsport Lola-Honda.
The LM GTE Pro class was dominated by the two factory BMW M3s early on, but their challenge took a serious blow about two hours from the chequered flag. The N°56 fell back from fourth place when it was forced to park up in its garage, while the N°55 machine took a one-minute stop&go penalty. The N°71 and N°51 AF Corse Ferraris profited from these misadventures to emerge at the top of the order and hand the tifosi a one-two finish at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari!
The amateur LM GTE category produced one-two success for Porsche thanks to the season’s first win for the N°67 Imsa-Performance car (Narac/Armindo), which clinched the trophy ahead of the N°63 Proton-run car. The Larbre Compétition Corvette came third to make it an all-MICHELIN podium.
