Peugeot on two wheels…

As LeMansLive reported during the pre-race test day in April, Peugeot’s nine drivers will travel to Le Mans on June 6 by bike!

Weather permitting, Peugeot Sport’s nine drivers, team boss Olivier Quesnel and Brands Manager Jean-Marc Galès will make the journey from Chartres to Le Mans on two wheels.

The 123km trip is scheduled to start at 8:30 from the offices of the Eure et Loir Préfecture and the group’s destination is Place des Jacobins in the centre of Le Mans. The original plan was to ride all the way from the team’s base in Vélizy, over two days, but that was eventually deemed somewhat over-optimistic ahead of such a busy week for the drivers…

Stéphane Sarrazin cycles more than 10,000km every year and is a handy amateur racer. Alex Wurz is a former BMX champion and can often be seen riding in the mountains of the French Riviera, while Olivier Quesnel is strong cyclist, too, and a long-time fan of the sport.

“I discovered the sport about 20 years ago after doing a lot of running. I used to cycle more than 10,000km a year, too, but I don’t get the time to do that anymore! I have completed certain stages of the Tour de France, I have founded my own club, started two cycling magazines and even opened a specialist shop in association with Alain Prost. The objective of our collective ride to Le Mans is to spend some time together and have a little fun ahead of Le Mans.”

Up until 30 or so years ago, Peugeot had its own professional cycle team which won the Tour de France nine times, the Tour of Spain three times and the Paris-Roubaix classic five times. Peugeot and MICHELIN were partners in the sport between 1965 and 1985. Today, Peugeot France’s “Mu by Peugeot” card (powered by Peugeot) allows customers to hire bikes and scooters from Peugeot dealerships.
