No-show for the AMR-One at Spa

In the wake of troubled appearances at the Le Castellet 6 Hours and at last weekend’s pre-Le Mans test day, Aston Martin has chosen to give early May’s Spa-Francorchamps 1000km a miss.
The new open-cockpit Aston Martin-One LMP1 prototypes were in poor form at Le Mans last Sunday. The N°007 car completed just 13 laps in the morning (21st fastest time, in 3m 51.568s), while the N°009 sister machine covered two laps at slow speed. Neither car went out for the afternoon’s session and the factory Aston Martin Racing packed up and left the track early.
It would appear that the six-cylinder, direct-injection, turbocharged engine was the source of the team’s trouble. After skipping March’s 12 Hours of Sebring, Aston Martin has now decided not to travel to Spa-Francorchamps for the second round of this year’s ILMC. It will focus instead on private testing.
Two AMR-One LMP1 cars have been invited to contest the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours.
