Nakano joins OAK Racing

OAK Racing has signed up Japan’s Shinji Nakano who will share the team’s N°49 LMP2 prototype with the young Nicolas de Crem.

There were three OAK Racing cars at last weekend’s pre-Le Mans test run, while a fourth prototype is in the process of being built. It wasn’t the greatest of days for the team which saw two of its cars (N°24 and N°35) sustain damage in accidents.

Richard Hein (N°24) had a big crash at the “Raccordement” turn at the end of the morning, with the bodywork, under-tray and gearbox all suffering. Meanwhile, the N°35 had a suspension problem before later being hit from behind (broken diffuser). On the Saturday, Erwan, one of the team’s mechanics, was burned following an unfortunate incident with one of the cars. LeMansLive wishes him a speedy recovery.

The driver line-up for OAK Racing’s N°49 Pescarolo-Judd has only just been released. It is now known that the 20-year old Belgian youngster Nicolas de Crem will be joined by Shinji Nakano who hasn’t contested the Le Mans 24 Hours since 2008. The car will be run in association with DAMS.
