There is barely audible background music in the PR motorhome that Peugeot Sport has hired especially for Petit Le Mans. The ‘trained ear’ of one of the (older) Le MansLive bloggers managed to pick up a couple of chords, however, and quickly identified the group: the Allman Brothers Band, one of the giant American rock groups of the 1970′s. Fittingly, the Allman brothers in question hail from Macon which, like Road Atlanta, is in the state of Georgia.
It transpires that the Montana-registered motorhome in question belongs to a certain Rick Downey, former drummer of the Blue Öyster Cult, another famous band from the sixties and seventies. The group is still touring today and has sold 14 million albums.
The motorhome hire deal stems from a contact that one of Peugeot Sport’s former team members had forged in the world of Indycar racing many years back. Perhaps in the USA more than anywhere else, motor racing and rock and roll go hand in hand!
