Mosport, which is situated near Bowmanville, and which is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary, delivers a cocktail of fast, sweeping corners and some frightening (some might even say dangerous) long straights.

Every lap’s a challenge, and Turn 8 defies Newton’s law of gravity,” comments factory Corvette driver Johnny O’Connell who fell in love with the Canadian venue one cold, rainy day back in 1989.

His former Corvette team-mate Ron Fellows is known as the Master of Mosport because of his in-depth knowledge of the circuit. “I grew up here,” he says. “My earliest recollections of the place date back to 1969 when I came to watch the F1 Grand Prix. It’s a real man’s circuit. You know it will hurt if you ever put a foot out of line. It’s a place that calls for a great deal of humility…”

Thirty cars have been entered for the penultimate round of the season, and the race marks the return to the ALMS scene of Romain Dumas in a car with which he is more than just a little familiar: the Porsche RS Spyder. The hunt for the titles enters its final phase in the GT class, too, and promises to produce a breathtaking stand-off between the Flying Lizard Porsche, Risi Competizione Ferrari and Rahal-Letterman BMW squads.

The classic programme features free practice on Friday, followed by further free practice and qualifying on Saturday, and the race itself on Sunday (start: 9:05pm CET).
