The front row of the grid for this weekend’s 24 Hours of Spa will be shared by the N°2 Ferrari and the N°79 BMW, which qualified just ahead of Phoenix Racing’s two Audi R8s. It promises to be another thrilling weekend of action in the Belgian Ardennes!
Thursday evening’s programme saw Gimmi Bruni claim pole position with a time of 2m 22.403s on a drying track in the middle of the second session, just before further rain set in.
Nobody succeeded in improving on the best time of the Ferrari driver who was fresh back from the ALMS round at Lime Rock, Connecticut. Indeed, this is something of a busy period for the Italian at the moment since he also took the LMGT2 pole and victory when the Le Mans Series visited Portimao, Portugal, in July.
Following on from its win in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and its double LMGT2 podium (2nd and 3rd places) at Lime Rock, BMW continues to be in competitive form, and Dirk Werner only missed out on pole at Spa by a couple of thousandths of a second. The German carmaker has also announced that it will be contesting the 2010 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
This morning (Saturday) saw the two factory BMWs top the time-sheets in the warm-up session ahead of the N°2 Ferrari and Romain Grosjean’s Mosler.
The 2010 24 Hours of Spa starts at 4pm.
