We’re six hours into the race, and the two Peugeot 908 HDi FAPs are in dominating form at Sebring. The N°08 car leads, with the N°07 sister car following 30 or so seconds behind. The Aston Martin is third, three laps adrift…
The Peugeot crews haven’t really come under any sort of threat since the start. The Drayson Racing Lola briefly split the two French cars during the opening hour in the hands of a particularly determined Emanuele Pirro. The challenge didn’t last long, however, since the Drayson-run was forced to pit for an alternator change and is now running 16 laps behind, in eighth place.
The two Peugeot 908s enjoy a three-lap cushion over the Aston Martin, while the Highcroft Racing-run HPD is fourth, five laps back, but on top of the order in LMP2 ahead of the Cytosport Porsche.
As expected, there is a thrilling scrap in GT2. The Risi Competizione leads the class (seventh overall), but it is only six seconds clear of the N°92 BMW. The Ferrari has been double stinting, unlike its rivals, while the Flying Lizard Porsche is third, 40 seconds down.
Corvette Racing’s day got off to a catastrophic start when the two Corvette C6.Rs tangled in the pits. They are consequently running a lowly 10th and 12th in GT2! It’s turning out to be a tough debut, too, for the Dyson Racing Lola-Mazda which is 29th, 52 laps down, after a very long pit stop.
