What the winners said:

Comments from the LMP1, LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am winners of the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours.

Benoît Tréluyer (1st, N°1 Audi e-tron quattro):“This result is the fruit of so much hard work. We prepared well for the race, and Marcel, André and I felt more confident after our win in 2011. We also worked with the same technical staff, including our race engineer Leena and our mechanics. We are really motivated by the hybrid project. Today, I think we wrote a fresh page in motor racing history.”

André Lotterer (1st, N°1 Audi e-tron quattro): “I don’t know how it appeared to outsiders, but that was a real race. We were fighting flat out with the drivers of the N°2 car. It was actually as fierce as our battle with the Peugeot in 2011. Thanks to Audi for allowing that to happen.”

Tom Kristensen (2nd, N°2 Audi e-tron quattro): “That was a fabulous race. I loved my three stints during the night. I wanted to stay in the car, but I had to respect the team’s strategy. Le Mans will always be Le Mans: you can never guess how it will end. Congratulations to the drivers of the N°1 and N°4 cars. They are young and getting faster and faster. A mention, too, to the drivers of the N°3 car who were down on luck, and to Timo Bernhard.”

Mike Rockenfeller (3rd, N°4 Audi ultra): “We weren’t as quick as the others during the early part of the race, so we just tried to be consistent and not make any mistakes. And here we are on the podium. A big bravo to my team-mates: it’s fantastic to be on the podium at Le Mans!”

Dr Wolfgang Ullrich (Director, Audi Sport): “Thanks to all the team and to our partner Michelin. The complexity of the week wasn’t helped by the changing weather and the occasionally slippery track conditions. The guys from Michelin and Audi Sport worked together to come up with the best set-ups. I think it’s a big achievement to come here and score a one-two finish with a new technological concept. We’ll be back in 2013.”

Jack Lecomte (Team Principal, Larbre Compétition, LMGTE Am winner): “Julien, Pedro and Patrick did an exceptional job. I think we traded first place in our class with the N°67 Porsche during 20 of the 24 hours. We finished in front ahead of fourteen other cars and four different car manufacturers. We won in 2010 and 2011, but I know how hard it is to stay at the top. I wanted to leave the final stint to Julien [who comes from Le Mans] to give him a chance to cross the line in front of his home supporters.”
